Let’s Talk Botox

Written By: Ric Harrison

Let’s get the boring stuff out of the way first;

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a highly purified muscle toxin, isolated from a certain strain of bacteria. The toxin blocks the chemical signal between the muscle and the nerve, leading to temporary paralysis of the muscle. The paralysis occurs over 1 to 5 days and peaks in two to four weeks. Results last from three to six months. The effect gradually wears off, allowing the dynamic wrinkle to return.

Botox is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of both moderate to severe crow’s feet and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. Side-effects are minimal for most people as long as you follow a few simple things. You need to refrain from lying down for about 2 hours after your treatments and wait several hours before doing any strenuous exercise.  Botox is the only FDA approved drug treatment option for crows feet and frown lines. The FDA approved Botox in 2002 for the temporary improvement of wrinkles between the eyebrows, known as frown lines in adults. Botox is a product of Allergan.

Now for the interesting stuff!

I first had Botox when in was in my late 30’s. Usually for a special occasion and I wanted to look a bit firmer (really a bit younger), know what I mean? Now that I’m in my early fifties I have Botox done on a regular basis (about every 3 to 6 months). I have never looked better and others have told me so.

Taking care of ourselves as we age is so important. Eating healthy, exercising and getting enough sleep are good ways to take care of our bodies. I’ve found that Botox not only makes me look better but also gives me a lift in my self-image. The better I feel emotionally; the better I care for myself. A little help from Botox is just the shot (injection) that I want. It’s the whole package for me.

For the next couple of months, I’ll be blogging about Botox, facial fillers and injectables. Look for a new blog each week and let me know what you would like more information about. I’d love to hear from you.
