How to Care for Dermal Fillers

Aftercare for Dermal Fillers

Woman receives dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are one the best ways to combat the side-effects of aging. By replacing lost volume in the face, this cosmetic treatment reduces the appearance of wrinkles, plumps out facial features, and restores a youthful appearance. You can experience the effects of the treatment for nearly 18 months, but you will need to follow an aftercare regimen to ensure the results last. At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we specialize in dermal fillers and other cosmetic treatments, such as BOTOX® and laser hair removal. After your treatment, be sure to follow our recommended aftercare advice.

Immediately After Treatment

Within an hour after treatment, you may experience some redness, bruising, swelling, and tenderness near the injection site. Though this may be uncomfortable, avoid massaging or itching the area. Touching the injection site may disturb dermal fillers and prevent them from properly setting. To reduce swelling and discomfort, you can always take Tylenol or another over-the-counter pain reliever. After a few days, bruising and swelling should reduce.

The Days Following Treatment

During the first few days after treatment, carefully follow your aftercare regimen to ensure you don’t experience any complications. Most importantly, avoid any activities that could lead to swelling, such as strenuous exercise, alcohol consumption, and excessive heat. Avoid tanning beds, saunas, or hot tubs. During this time, you are free to wear makeup, sunscreen, and use facial lotion – just be sure to use a cleanser specially formulated for sensitive skin.

Long-Term Aftercare

To ensure the effects of your dermal fillers are long-lasting, you should follow some general aftercare instructions during the months following the injection. First, you should avoid excessive sun exposure. Most wrinkles, dark spots, and other signs of aging are caused by sun damage, so be sure to apply sunscreen generously. Sunscreens with an SPF of 45 or greater are highly recommended.

Secondly, you should utilize skincare products that strengthen your skin and reduce the appearance of aging. Products that contain Vitamin C can be incredibly effective. To determine which products are best for you, consult with the dermatologists at Emerge Medical & Well Spa.

Dermal Fillers. Are They Dangerous?

Are Dermal Fillers Safe?

Brunette woman receiving dermal fillers

Who doesn’t want smoother, more beautiful skin? We all want to look and feel younger. You can recapture the feeling of a more youthful self with hormone replacement therapy, and you can look the way you feel with dermal fillers. Some people might try to tell you, however, that dermal fillers are not safe. They may list some issues they have with the procedure. They may call it unhealthy. Is there any truth to this? Is this procedure safe? Today, the team at Emerge Medical & Well Spa in Tulsa, Oklahoma, takes a look at how safe dermal fillers really are.

FDA Approved to Help Your Skin Look Younger

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration gives the procedure their stamp of approval. The administration even goes so far to say that dermal fillers can correct “moderate to severe facial wrinkles and skin folds, such as nasolabial folds, which are the  wrinkles on the sides of your mouth that extend towards the nose.”

No Common Major Side Effects

Like most medical procedures, dermal fillers do have a few minor side effects. You would have to search far and wide not to find even an over-the-counter aspirin that didn’t have side effects, and this procedure is no different. Fillers can cause bruising, redness, swelling, tenderness, itchiness, and slight pain in the area of the injection. You are no more likely to get cancer from dermal fillers than you are from simply existing in the world. The benefits of the procedure are great, too.

What Can Dermal Fillers Do for Me?

Looking your best and feeling your best often go hand in hand. This procedure allows you to do just that. It takes a simple injection of soft tissue to trouble areas. Your wrinkles will smooth over in no time, and you will look and feel like your younger self again.

Some of our clients here at Emerge Medical & Well Spa choose this procedure over Botox. The procedure can be more pricey, but the results last longer than most Botox injections. However, often Botox works best for certain areas and fillers for others. You should consult our highly trained staff. We can work together to find the solution that fits you the best.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal Fillers Information

Everyone has something about themselves that they would like to change – or at the very least enhance and make better. At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we offer a wide selection of dermal fillers, facial fillers, and other injectables to give our clients the facial features they’ve always wanted without having to go through intensive plastic surgery procedures.

While we have been professionally administering dermal fillers for years at Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we understand that not everyone is as familiar with these products and procedures. That’s why today we are taking a closer look at dermal fillers to understand what they are and how they may be a benefit to you.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a non-invasive alternative to minor facial enhancements. With age and other common factors, your skin starts to lose the fat under the skin. While losing fat is generally seen as a good thing, losing the layer of subcutaneous fat can cause your skin to sink and lose fullness, causing wrinkles and other issues. Dermal fillers seek to remedy that issue. With fillers, a solution is injected into the layers of the skin where subcutaneous fat has decreased to restore that layer and revitalize the look of those problem areas. Different fillers use different products in their solutions, so it is important to thoroughly research your fillers before deciding to undergo a procedure.

What Are Dermal Fillers Used For?

Dermal fillers can be used for a number of different treatments. Fillers can add fullness to lips, smooth creases and lines in the face, raise sunken cheeks, and even improve the appearance of scars. Different fillers can be used for different purposes. Juvederm® Ultra XC, for example, is used to plump lips, while Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC is used to treat more intense lines and wrinkles, as well as to shape and contour the cheek and chin area.

Should I Get Fillers?

If you have lines and wrinkles on your face that you would like smoothed out, or if you’ve always wanted fuller lips without having to go through surgery, you may be a prime candidate for dermal fillers. While fillers won’t give as drastic of a change as plastic surgery, they are an excellent option for those who are interested in natural-looking facial enhancements. As always, you should discuss any questions and concerns about the process with a professional before undergoing any type of procedure.
