Taking a Trip? Take These 3 Skincare Essentials With You!

The anticipation of a trip can be an exciting or overwhelming feeling to experience. The thought of what to pack, when to wake up, what to wear while traveling may creep to the forefront of your mind.

The list is endless, but the Emerge team is here to help you maximize your efficiency when packing your daily skincare routine. In today’s blog, we discuss the three must-have skincare items to have in your luggage when traveling.

Face Wash & Toner

Cleansing daily bacteria build-up is extremely important, especially on a trip. Being in a new environment means absorbing new bacteria your skin hasn’t been exposed to yet. This can cause acne, rosacea flare-ups, and clogged pores.

It is important to maintain the use of your daily face wash as well as follow up with a toner at least twice a week. The Health Nexus article How To Avoid “Airplane Acne” talks about how impurities in the air can attach to your face causing breakouts.

Avoid touching your face and cleanse as thoroughly as possible once off the plane and after settling in from daily activities. A great way to multipurpose your cleansing method is to invest in cleansing wipes. Cleansing wipes remove makeup and accumulated debris. Finishing with a deep cleansing face wash eliminates the need to pack a toner, unless your particular skin type requires weekly astringent use.

Moisturizer

Nourishing your skin is always a top priority. However, this is especially important while traveling. The stress associated with transport and new adventures can literally take a toll on our faces.

You should protect your skin from the sun and wind as much as possible, and a moisturizer can help achieve this. On vacation, especially, it is easy for the skin to become stripped of all the natural oils it produces.

Moisturizer containing vitamin E is an excellent reparative and antioxidant to use while traveling. Allure’s article A Beginner’s Guide to Vitamin E and What It Does for Your Skin showcases preventative measures to care for your skin in anticipation of excessive element exposure.

Foundation With SPF

Makeup artist, author and educator Toni Thomas believes that less is more when it comes to your daily skin routine. In her article Skincare and Makeup Packing Tips for Beautiful Travelers, she covers multipurpose makeup products, and why they’re essential to traveling.

One product Thomas swears by is SPF-based foundation. Or, essentially, foundation with sunscreen in it. UV rays are the same around the world. However, depending on your vacation destination your skin will react differently to them. This is because different parts of the world have different levels of sun exposure. Sunny tropical spots will have more intense levels of sunlight, which can burn your skin faster.

Having foundation with sunscreen in it will not only create a protective barrier, but it can also moisturize your skin while you enjoy your daily activities.

When going about your daily routine, it is important to avoid touching your hands to your face. Just as your face acquires new bacteria in a new place, so do your hands. Washing your hands regularly, having hand sanitizer in your purse or pocket, and keeping your hands away from your face are essential for avoiding breakouts and flare-ups.
