Microdermabrasion Explained by Emerge Medical & Well Spa

We all want perfect skin! However, age, stress, sun exposure, etc. can cause our skin to be dull. Even if you take great care of your skin, sometimes it’s necessary to give it a little extra help.

At Emerge Medical & Well Space, one way we suggest getting back on the path to the flawless complexion you want is to invest in microdermabrasion. This may not be a term that you are familiar with, so we want to clear up any questions there might be about this process that can help clear up your skin and leave it fresh and radiant. At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we always suggest that before you decide on this kind of skin treatment you make sure to discuss it with your dermatologist.

How it Works

Microdermabrasion is different from regular dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is far rougher on the skin. With dermabrasion, the dermatologist is sanding the top layer of your skin.

With microdermabrasion, tiny crystals are spread on your skin to remove that dull top layer of skin. Unlike dermabrasion, microdermabrasion doesn’t require a lengthy recovery period. However, your skin will be pink and dry so make sure to moisturize after your procedure. Also, it’s best practice to avoid makeup for at least 24 hours to prevent any skin irritation.

History

The act of abrasion as a means of skin beautification dates back all the way to ancient Egypt. Sandpaper was used to take off the upper layer of skin. A variety of other methods developed over the years until in 1985 in Italy the first microdermabrasion machine was invented. This system was far gentler and safer for both doctor and patient.

Today, it is one of the most popular skin care procedures on the market because of how much it helps brighten and renew your skin.

Intended Results

At Emerge Medical & Well Space we offer microdermabrasion because it is a gentler method of treating things like dull skin, light acne scars, or minor skin discoloration. It is not, however, sufficient for removing stretch marks, deep scars, etc. This procedure is meant merely to make skin brighter and softer.
