Emerge Tulsa Explains the 5 Best Ways to Prevent Sunburn

Emerge Tulsa Botox Prevent Sunburn

Summer is here! Sun worshippers are heading to the lake, pool, and beach to lay out and soak in the rays. In today’s blog from Emerge Tulsa, we discuss the five best ways to prevent sunburn.

Related Post: What is SPF and the difference in strengths?

1. Sunscreen

Water-resistant sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher does the trick when you’re at the beach, swimming, or spending a lot of time outdoors. Apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before going outdoors, because it takes that long for your skin to absorb it. Apply at least 1 ounce to the exposed parts of your skin, including face, neck, ears, arms, legs, tops of your feet, and back, as much as possible. Reapply sunscreen after two hours for best results. Emerge Tulsa offers some fantastic products with SPF protection.

2. Clothing

Clothing offers a reliable way to keep sunburn away. If possible, wear long sleeves and long pants made of lightweight material in colors like white or beige. Consider clothing with UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) in the fabric. UPF of 50 or higher helps block up to 98% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays. The staff at Emerge Tulsa can recommend UPF clothing for you.

3. Stay Indoors

Think about staying indoors during the part of the day when the sun’s rays are most intense — from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s probably still going to be hot from 4 to 8 p.m., so you have plenty of time to get out and enjoy the warm weather without as much exposure to the sun.

4. Seek Shade

Stay in the shade whenever possible. This is particularly true for kids, who are more vulnerable to the heat. Set up your picnic next to a large tree. Lay out a hammock between two palm trees at your tropical destination. Watch animals at the zoo from the comfort of a covered awning. Take an umbrella with you to the golf course in between shots.

5. Little Things

Don’t forget the little things to protect you from sunburn! Lip balm with sunscreen is crucial to protecting your lips. UVA/UVB sunglasses are a must, but make sure they cover all of your eyes to prevent bright sunlight from reaching your pupils. You can even get sunburn on a cloudy day, so you can also try these tips from Emerge Tulsa when it’s cloudy outside.

Worried About COVID-19 & the Coronavirus? Emerge Tulsa Now Has Antibody Testing

COVID-19 Antibody Testing Emerge Tulsa

The COVID-19 pandemic has given everyone a jolt. The staff at Emerge Medical & Well Spa in Tulsa is taking every precaution to keep you safe during your treatment here. We also offer antibody testing for COVID-19. Today’s blog answers frequently asked questions about this antibody test for the coronavirus.

Related Post: Should You Get Allergy Testing?

What does the COVID-19 antibody test entail?

Our registered nurse draws a small sample of blood during a quick, 15-minute office appointment at Emerge Medical & Well Spa. You may feel slight discomfort from the shot during sample collection.

What if I’m showing symptoms of the coronavirus?

You should only take this test if you do NOT show symptoms of the coronavirus. We will take your temperature upon arrival, and if it is too high, you will not be allowed into Emerge Medical & Well Spa. You should contact your physician immediately.

Has the FDA authorized this antibody test?

Our antibody test, also known as a serology test, is done on FDA-authorized Abbott testing equipment.

How soon will I know the test results?

Results of the test typically take 48 hours to receive. This is not an instant test.

What do test results show?

A positive result for COVID-19 antibody test indicates you MAY have been exposed to the coronavirus at some time in the past. A positive test result also indicates you may have SOME immunity to the coronavirus, but you could still become reinfected with the coronavirus in the future. You should consult with your doctor about the best course of action moving forward.

What does this antibody test NOT do?

The antibody test does NOT diagnose COVID-19. Tests to diagnose the coronavirus should only be done by licensed medical professionals in a clinical treatment setting. Tests to diagnose COVID-19 typically involve a nasal or saliva swab to detect the virus’s antigens. Antigen tests may show results within minutes rather than days.

What are antibodies?

Antibodies are natural proteins produced by your body’s immune system to fight off infections and clear the virus out of your system. Your body produces antibodies on a regular and consistent basis as part of the normal function of your immune system.

Types of PRP Injections and Their Benefits

Emerge Medical & Well Spa PRP Injections

Emerge Medical & Well Spa hopes you and your loved ones are well and healthy in these trying times. PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections are one type of service we provide here at our facility as a way to help your skin heal and look its best. Today’s blog from Emerge Tulsa & Well Spa examines the types of PRP injections available to you, particularly for better-looking skin.

Related Post: Emerge Answers: Can I Benefit From Acne Laser Treatment?

What types of PRP injections are there?

Different types of PRP injections are designed to heal and repair injuries. Medical studies show these shots work for:

  • Tennis elbow
  • Knee osteoarthritis
  • Sports injuries, including pulled muscles and sprains
  • Wounds
  • Hair loss

Your doctor is the first authority when it comes to healing and treating injuries and wounds. PRP injections may give your body’s natural healing a boost. They also help give you more youthful skin, which is the type of PRP treatment we have here at Emerge Tulsa.

What happens with PRP injections and therapy?

PRP injections work by harvesting platelets from your body. Platelets contain a lot of proteins, and their overall function is to clot your blood, encourage healing, and repair injuries. What we do is take a small amount of your blood and then run it through a machine called a centrifuge. The centrifuge separates the blood into its component parts, including platelets and plasma.

After we separate the platelets, we inject them into the part of your skin that’s damaged or wrinkled. The injection site undergoes slight swelling, which indicates your body’s natural healing process has started.

How PRP Injections Help Your Skin

Emerge Medical & Well Spa uses PRP injections to treat several skin maladies. This treatment works to repair wounds and damage on your skin’s surface. Healing acne scars is another way PRP injections can help you look your best. We might also recommend this therapy to decrease wrinkles and brown spots.

Benefits of Our Intramuscular Injections

Emerge Medical & Well Spa Intramuscular Injections

Intramuscular injections from Emerge Medical & Well Spa in Tulsa are designed to have sustained, long-term results. Our staff can tailor a series of injections to deliver the results you want to achieve. In today’s blog, we discuss the benefits of our intramuscular injections.

Related Post: The Importance of B-12 Shots for Vegans

What are intramuscular injections?

Intramuscular injections deliver beneficial substances deep into the muscles. For example, getting a vaccine uses this technique. A medical professional disinfects the injection site and uses a hypodermic needle to deliver the treatment directly into your bloodstream.

Why do intramuscular injections work?

Our intramuscular injections work because treatments start to take effect much faster compared to digestible or oral nutrients. Your body starts to utilize vitamins, minerals, and amino acids right away. There’s no wait time for your stomach to process the nutrients. The only faster method to receive nutrients is through an IV bag.

Reasons to Get Intramuscular Injections

The overall goal of intramuscular injections at Emerge Medical & Well Spa is for nutrition, beauty, or boosting mood. We have several types of injections filled with nutrients your body needs.

Nutrition. Our vitamin D injection may help your body absorb calcium. An injection with B-vitamins helps regulate metabolism, gives you an energy boost during a workout, or helps balance your red blood cells. Vegans need an extra boost from vitamin B-12 because this vitamin primarily comes from animal sources in nature. The body has trouble absorbing B-12, which is why an intramuscular injection can help.

Beauty. Nutrients naturally help your skin, hair, and nails look healthy and radiant. An intramuscular injection of B-vitamins could help your natural beauty shine through. Certain amino acids, along with B-12, could assist your body’s efforts to turn fat layers into energy. Antioxidants come into play here as they help rid your body of heavy metals and free radicals that can build up over time.

Mood. Nutrition affects your mood. Amino acids, minerals, and vitamins can de-stress your body, balance your mood, and make you feel better. Custom intramuscular injections speed nutrients into your bloodstream without having to wait for food or pills to kick in, plus they are concentrated and readily available for your body to use right away.

What Is MiraDry and How Does It Work?

MiraDry Emerge Medical & Well Spa

MiraDry is a world-renowned, FDA-cleared treatment that dramatically reduces underarm sweat in as little as one appointment. More than 150,000 treatments have been performed worldwide! In today’s blog from Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we explain what MiraDry is and how it works.

Related Post: Common Myths About Laser Treatments

What is MiraDry?

MiraDry is designed to reduce or eliminate sweat from your underarms. This is particularly handy for people who have hyperhidrosis, or abnormally high amounts of sweat. The FDA cleared MiraDry as a treatment in 2015.

Is MiraDry risky?

MiraDry is completely safe. Your body has anywhere from 2 to 4 million sweat glands, yet only 2 percent of them are in your underarms. Getting rid of the sweat glands in your underarms doesn’t affect your body’s natural cooling mechanism on hot days or during strenuous exercise.

How does MiraDry work?

A technician marks your underarm with temporary tattoos to prepare for your treatment. We also numb the area for comfort. Then, we use a handheld device that delivers precise amounts of microwaves to the underarm area. The intense heat created by the microwaves destroys sweat glands permanently. The entire procedure takes about an hour in a single appointment. It’s completely safe, and you can return to normal daily activities immediately.

What are the side effects of MiraDry?

Patients who undergo MiraDry typically have soreness or minor swelling in the treated area, which can last a few days. You may also experience numbness or tingling in the upper arm or underarm for up to four or five weeks. Try not to schedule your treatment close to a time when you have an important meeting or going on a trip because the discomfort could be distracting. We recommend you take it easy for a few days after your MiraDry treatment.

Prenatal Massage Techniques

Prenatal Massage Emerge Medical & Well Spa

Prenatal massage is a wonderful way to help get you through your pregnancy. Mothers-to-be report lower stress and pain levels, improved sleep, better relaxation, and pain relief when receiving a massage while pregnant. In today’s blog from Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we look into a few prenatal massage techniques that can help you feel your best.

Related Post: Massages and Your New Year’s Resolutions

Positioning

Prenatal massage can be performed with a woman lying on her back or side. She may even feel most comfortable sitting up. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable, the staff at Emerge Medical & Well Spa can adapt. Positioning often depends on how far along you are in your pregnancy, your comfort level, and what part of your body you want to be massaged.

Types of Massage

There are more than 80 types of massage, but not all of them are appropriate for a prenatal massage. Our massage therapists could recommend a deep tissue massage that presses into your muscles to alleviate your aching back or shoulders. Swedish massage, with its long strokes, helps with joint flexibility. Shiatsu uses pressure and tapping to stimulate your body’s natural relaxation response.

About the Legs

Our massage therapists take the utmost care of you and your baby during a prenatal massage. Pregnant women have a risk for blood clots in the legs during the third trimester. We typically avoid deep massage and strong pressure on the legs. Even if you feel pain and bloating in your legs and feet, we’ll try to alleviate your discomfort as much as possible with a light prenatal massage in those areas.

Consult With Your Doctor

We always want you to be in the best possible health before, during, and after you see us. Please consult with your doctor before getting a prenatal massage. Your doctor can advise you on what can and cannot be done based on your specific situation. Rest assured, our staff will follow your doctor’s guidelines.

Spa Facials: How Does DiamondGlow Work?

DiamondGlow Spa Facial Emerge Tulsa

Our clients continue to ask us about Diamond Glow, the revolutionary skin treatment and spa facial. Is it a dermal infusion? Do patients undergo an injection? Today’s blog from Emerge Medical & Well Spa in Tulsa explains how DiamondGlow spa facial treatments work.

Related Post: The Benefits of Dermaplaning

Who benefits from DiamondGlow?

DiamondGlow is a spa facial treatment using advanced technology to deliver nutrients to stressed skin. Candidates for this treatment include people with:

  • Mild wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Dark spots
  • Sun damage
  • Dry or dehydrated skin
  • Oily prone skin
  • Congestion
  • Rough skin texture
  • Acne
  • Large pores

How is DiamondGlow different from other spa facial treatments?

DiamondGlow does several things that many spa facials treatments simply can’t do. The system combines non-invasive exfoliation with products that deliver nutrients directly to the skin. It works without crystals or chemical exfoliants. Even better, DiamondGlow has specific treatments that provide the right products.

What happens during a DiamondGlow procedure?

Our team begins by selecting the serum infusion levels based on your skin type and serum chosen.  We guide the suction wand across your face using a horizontal or vertical motion, which can create a slight sensation of sanding across your face. It feels almost like a cat licking your face! The treatment is complete after two passes.

Three things happen at once. First, the exfoliant helps remove dry and damaged skin. Then a cleanser deep-cleans the skin’s surface and pores. Third, serums deliver professional-grade nutrients to the skin because it has a high receptivity level. DiamondGlow spa facials create plumpness, volume, hydration, tone, and texture all at once.

How long does a DiamondGlow session last?

DiamondGlow lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour per session. Our on-staff medical professionals oversee each procedure. For this reason, you cannot book DiamondGlow through our website.

How long before I see results from this spa facial?

Immediately after treatment, patients often report that skin appears smoother, plumper, and more hydrated. Long-term results may happen within a few weeks. Entire courses of treatment with DiamondGlow spa facials could run a few months. Each session lasts no more than an hour, and you can resume normal activities right after leaving our office.

Will I feel any pain?

You should experience little to no pain with a DiamondGlow spa facial. Your face may appear red or flushed after your treatment session. This is normal. The redness should go away quickly.

Lip Injections: Frequently Asked Questions

Lip Injection Emerge Tulsa

Lip injections may sound like a complicated cosmetic procedure. Rest assured, getting a lip injection is entirely safe and the results are outstanding! Read Emerge Tulsa’s FAQs about this service to find out more.

Are lip injections safe?

Yes, lip injections are completely safe. The FDA has approved more than 30 types of dermal fillers (the substances injected into your lips) considered safe for this type of enhancement.

Is there any pain associated with lip injections?

Yes, there is pain associated with lip injections, but it’s usually minor. Our staff numbs the area first, either with a topical anesthetic or a dental nerve block like novocaine.

After we inject the filler, you may feel a dull throbbing. We may ice down your lips for a few minutes to reduce any swelling at the injection site. Pain should stay minor and manageable with over-the-counter painkillers or antihistamines after the procedure is complete.

What’s in those syringes?

The main ingredient of dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in your body. It helps increase volume while improving the shape and structure of your lips. We also use collagen injections, but hyaluronic acid achieves better results.

Are there side effects to lip injections?

Yes, there are side effects to this procedure. The main side effect of lip injections is beautiful lips!

Minor side effects include:

  • Pain and swelling, which usually lasts for 24 hours
  • Redness
  • Bruising
  • Bleeding from the lip injection sites

These minor side effects normally go away after a few days.

More serious side effects of lip injections may include:

  • Severe bruising that lasts up to 10 days
  • Infection
  • Scarring or stiffening of the lips
  • Allergic reaction
  • Lip asymmetry
  • Lumps and irregularities on the lips

Please note that these serious side effects are rare compared to the minor ones.

How many lip injections will I need?

The number of lip injections you need depends on the effects you’re trying to achieve. The results you see from a single injection are instantaneous, but we don’t want to overwhelm your lips by trying to achieve the full effects in one session. We may need a few weeks of lip injections to achieve your desired results.

What kinds of lip injections do you do at Emerge Medical & Well Spa?

We utilize a dozen different types of lip injections at Emerge Tulsa. Choose from Botox, Juvederm, Kybella, ArqueDerma, and more. Contact Emerge Medical & Well Spa or call (918) 392-8606 for more details.

How to Care for Your Skin After Laser Treatment

Laser treatment can address many skin concerns, including scarring, redness, and pigmentation. Following a treatment, it’s essential to take care of your skin so you can have a clear and smooth complexion. If you’re wondering what the best post-treatment procedure is, Emerge Medical and Well Spa is here to help. Today, we share some tips for skin care after a laser treatment.

Expect Downtime

When you have laser treatment, your skin will be delicate and easily irritated. Your expected downtime can vary, depending on the depth and type of the laser. But it can take several days or weeks to completely heal and show maximum results. If you use the wrong skin care products, such as retinol and harsh cleansers, they can damage your skin.

Wear a High SPF Sunscreen

After the laser treatment, sun protection should be your top priority. Your skin is very sensitive in the healing phase, and dark spots could form if you don’t wear a good SPF sunscreen. Wear sunscreen that offers an SPF of 30 or above to protect against both UVA and UVB rays.

Keep Your Skin Clean

For optimal results, keep your skin moist, hydrated, and clean. Avoid high impact exercise and stay away from acid-based or exfoliating cleansers. Instead, use a product like Aquaphor or another gentle moisturizer to cleanse your skin. You may need to limit your makeup as well. Consult the team at Emerge about which ingredients are right for you and when you can begin wearing makeup again.

Reduce Inflammation

Comfort is another aspect of good skin care. If your skin appears swollen and red after your laser treatment, apply cooling packs and cold compresses to the area. You can use an extra pillow (or two) to sleep in an elevated position to help alleviate inflammation.

Is Foot Reflexology the Solution to Migraines?

Foot reflexology for migraines

Although the practice has only recently gained popularity in the United States, foot reflexology dates back thousands of years. The treatment may provide relief for a variety of conditions, including chronic muscle pain, insomnia, menstrual cramps, and more. At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, many patients who live with chronic migraines wonder if reflexology can cure their pain. We provide an answer in today’s blog.

How Foot Reflexology Works

Foot reflexology is a holistic practice, which means it works to keep the body in balance. A massage therapist targets specific acupressure points on the foot to stimulate the neurological function and improve the flow of circulation during treatment. Each point connects to a different area of the body, so treatments are usually tailored to relieve any pain the patient experiences. For example, if you’re experiencing pain in your left temporal lobe, the massage therapist will focus treatment on your large left toe. Although reflexology uses acupressure points, it doesn’t involve needles making it a great alternative to acupuncture for some patients.

Migraine Relief

If you experience migraines, foot reflexology may be able to relieve your pain and prevent future headaches. A massage therapist typically applies pressure to the inside of your big toe and second toe providing relief to your temporal lobes if you have a headache. They may also target your little toes as well as the top of the large toes near the nail bed, which can provide pain relief for the face and sinuses.

Related Post: Emerge Medical & Well Spa Services For Migraines

Will Reflexology Cure Migraines?

Foot reflexology can work wonders for those who suffer from migraines. Typically, you’ll experience pain relief during the session and the effects may continue for up to five days. It’s important to realize that reflexology is not necessarily a cure-all. As a holistic treatment, reflexology should be combined with other holistic therapies, such as following a healthy diet, utilizing herbal medicine, and practicing yoga. By living a healthy lifestyle, you are more likely to experience the effects of your treatment.

You should also keep in mind that reflexology is not necessarily meant to replace forms of modern medical treatment. Always consult with your physician if you have chronic migraines as they may indicate a more serious problem. Talk to your physician if you’re considering stopping your migraine medication.
