How to Care for Your Skin After a Chemical Facial Peel

woman smiling and applying facial skin care productsChemical facial peels are great for treating and reversing a number of skin conditions, like hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, and even acne! They work to remove the outer layer of your skin and reveal a new brighter and smoother layer of skin. After a chemical peel, your skin can be temporarily vulnerable and delicate. Because of this, it’s important that you follow these post-peel skin care tips!

Avoid Direct Sun Exposure

The most important post-peel skin care tip is to avoid direct exposure to the sun. Since your new layer of skin is so delicate, sun exposure can cause burns and even more visible signs of aging. If you find that you must be exposed to the sun, make sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF30 or higher to protect your skin.

Moisturize

Reinforcing your skin’s protective barrier that was removed during your facial peel is an important step in taking care of your skin. Use a medium or thick moisturizer, and be sure to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration!

Don’t Over Exfoliate

Chemical facial peels are designed to provide maximum exfoliation, so you won’t have to exfoliate for at least 3 or 4 days after your peel! Over exfoliating can be detrimental to your delicate post-facial skin and can leave you feeling red and sensitive.

If you decide to get a facial peel, make sure to follow these steps for the best results. Once your skin goes back to normal you can resume your skin care regimen and reap the benefits of glowing, exfoliated, and illuminated skin!

Self Care at Emerge Medical & Well Spa

Life can be stressful! In the mayhem of our busy lives, we often forget to pause and spend time on self-care. Though that phrase may sound frivolous in the face of deadlines at work or any other major pressing matter in your life, it is crucial. If you don’t spend time on self-care, eventually you’ll find yourself burnt out and unable to keep up with the things you need to stay on top of.

At Emerge Medical & Well Spa we are firm believers in taking time to take care of yourself. Here are some ideas for your next self-care day that will help keep you revitalized and healthy as you navigate the pressures of everyday life!

Get a Massage

This is probably the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of self-care and for a good reason too! There are few things in this world more relaxing and revitalizing than a good massage.

At Emerge Medical & Well Spa we offer a wide variety of massages that will help you get back to feeling good and ready to take on the world.

A deep tissue massage is always an excellent choice. The idea is to target deep in the muscles to alleviate chronic pain like a stiff neck, back, or shoulders. If you sit at a desk all day hunched over a computer (which most people do), then this is the perfect choice for you! Get rid of the stiffness so you can get back to feeling like yourself!

Get a Detox Foot Bath

We all need a good detox from time to time. It helps restore you to optimal health! At Emerge Medical & Well Space, we offer an array of wellness services, one of which is a fantastic Detox Foot Bath. All you have to do is sit back and put your feet in a basin full of warm water and let the Ion Detox Foot Bath extract toxins. The best part is that even after you’ve left Emerge Medical & Well Spa, your body will continue to detox for the next 48-72 hours.

Among the many benefits of a Detox Foot Bath are an improved immune system, increased energy levels, improved sleep, and so much more! Who doesn’t need more of those things?

Get a Facial

When you’re tired and stressed, your skin reflects that. A great way to give your skin some life is to indulge in a facial.

At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, our spa facials run between 45 and 50 minutes long. You’ll get to lay back and enjoy a face, neck, shoulder, and scalp massage as well as receive the benefits of skin analysis and deep pore cleansing.

You will leave your appointment glowing and looking refreshed as well as having gained more knowledge about what kind of beauty regimen will help nourish your skin!

Get a Shot of Vitamin B12

This method of self-care might not have been on your radar, but it should be. A Vitamin B12 shot is a wonderful, natural way to boost your energy, increase your metabolism, boost your mood, and keep your cardiovascular system functioning smoothly. If you’ve never had a Vitamin B12 shot before, check out the Emerge Medical & Well Spa website to learn more!

Emerge Medical & Well Spa: How You Can Prevent Wrinkles

Emerge Medical & Well Spa: Tips for Preventing Wrinkles

Wrinkles are an inevitable part of the aging process, but you can prevent them to some degree. By making healthy lifestyle choices and practicing an effective skincare regimen, you can keep your skin looking youthful and glowing for years. At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we offer Botox and laser treatments to help you fight the effects of aging. Here, we share a few simple tips to help you prevent wrinkles.

#1. Use Sunscreen

When it comes to preventing wrinkles, sunscreen is your best friend. Sun exposure is the number one cause of wrinkles, so if you are at the beach or spending a long time outside, be sure to use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30. You should also make sure your sunscreen offers protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Even if you are only spending a short period outside, it never hurts to apply a layer of sunscreen, especially if you are prone to sunburns.

#2. Get Your Beauty Rest

Sun exposure may be the number one cause of wrinkles, but a lack of sleep is a close second. When you sleep, your body repairs itself from the damage of the day. This includes making new skin cells. To keep your skin radiant and youthful, Emerge Medical & Well Spa recommends getting at least eight hours of sleep a night.

#3. Moisturize

Moisturizing daily is a key component of a healthy skin care regimen. After a bath or a shower, be sure to apply moisturizer to prevent dry, flaky skin. If you do not wish to use regular store bought moisturizers, try a natural alternative like argan oil or coconut oil.

#4. Don’t Smoke

In addition to all the other negative side effects of smoking, it also significantly damages your skin. In fact, a smoker’s skin is said to look ten years older than a non-smoker’s skin. If you smoke, start thinking about quitting. Although it can be difficult, you can do it, and your skin will thank you.

#5. Hydrate

At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we know that hydration is an important component of any skin care regimen. This not only keeps your skin moisturized from within, but it also helps your body flush out harmful toxins. You can also add cucumber, lemon, or lime to your water if you are looking for a way to improve the flavor.

Invest in your skin care

Written By: Belinda Stewart

With all this talk about lasers and all their benefits, I want to remind you of the importance of good skin care. If you are considering laser treatments, you really need to consider upgrading you daily routine.  You are now in correction mode, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, redness from rocesea or broken blood vessels.  If you’re looking for “new” skin then you must treat with medical grade skin care.  No longer are those over the counter cleansers and moisturizers benefiting you the way they did when you were in your twenties. Let’s bring on good changes by supporting the skin’s underlying tissue with growth factors, turning over aging skin with retinols, increasing the effectiveness of your moisturizers with HA’s.  There are so many amazing scientifically founded products that actually treat the skin and make it healthier than before. Count me in! I love it when my clients are shocked by my age. We all know that we feel younger than we look.  Why not look younger than you feel.  Most over the counter products have lots of water and fillers that make your skin feel good when putting it on but have little benefit to keeping it that way all day. Invest in your skin when you invest in lasers, you will love what it can do for you.  My absolute favorite products, TNS Essential Serum and HA5 made by SkinMedica, throw in a little Stone Crop Moisturizer from Eminence and you won’t be disappointed.
